Originally known as Tyrcathlen, Ker Cavan is a gothic revival in the tutor tradition located in Guelph, Ontario. Sir Charles Barry, Architect of British Parliament Buildings and Downton Abbey, is said to be Architect and his only North American property and built between 1854 and 1856. As such, considered one of Guelph’s most historically and architecturally significant properties. Ker Cavan is one of the few surviving examples in Canada of the Tudor type of the Gothic Revival style. Built for Rev. Arthur Palmer of St. George’s Anglican Church, later Archdeacon of Toronto. With historical reference, the design features are typical of Sir Charles Barry, leading British architect of the Victorian era.
